It was an interesting game in the 18th Pan American Draughts Championship: Makendy X Burleson, deciding the 2nd place of the competition. At the end, Frantz Forbin, from Guadaloupe got the second place and Burleson was third and Makendy 4th. They were playing usin 1hour and 20 minutes for each player and 1 minute for each player in each move - Fischer System. There is a moment Makendy saw that Burleson´s clock is going up: 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5 ... minutes. And after playing Makendy doesn´t see the same in his clock. But it was because he still had 1 hour to use and Burleson just 2 minutes !! It was not easy for the arbiter Cor Verdel, from Holland, to explain Makendy that he still had 1 hour to play. He understood later, after finishing the game ! He disturbed Burleson and got Burleson tired. Because this Burlseon stopped the game and offered draw. But Burleson had winning position !!
